Jean Bernard Cerin
baritone
Jean Bernard Cerin is a young baritone from Port-au-Prince Haiti. Mr. Cerin's performance credits include music ranging from traditional and contemporary religious to opera, art song and musical theater. Mr. Cerin has performed throughout the United States, Haiti and most recently Paris, France. Recital engagements this season include the Liederabend Series in January as well as a recital of French Songs this spring at the New England Conservatory in Boston and a recital of song and opera at the Essex Meadows in Connecticut. On the operatic stage, he has appeared with Boston Opera Collaborative, the Aspen Opera Theater Center, Center City Opera Theater , the Brevard Music Festival’s Janiec Opera Company, and The New England Conservatory Opera Studio. This 2008/2009 season, Mr. Cerin has bowed as Morales in Carmen, Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Johan in Werther, Pandolfe in Cendrillon, Mr. Gobineau in Menotti's The Medium, Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro, David in Samuel Barber's A Hand of Bridge and Belcore in scenes from L'Elisir d'Amore. Musical theater roles include Booker T. Washington in a critically acclaimed production of Ragtime with The Upper Darby Performing Arts Center and Jean/Lemar in Godspell at St. Joseph’s University. Mr. Cerin is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance at the New England Conservatory. He did his undergraduate studies in Economics & Performing Arts at St. Joseph's University. Upcoming engagements include the title role in in a workshop performance of Ronald Vigue’s The Great Blondin and the Father in Greg Spear’s Paul’s Case with Center City Opera as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival.
